The Mumbai police Social Service Branch (SSB) on Saturday busted a sex racket in the MHADA colony in Four Bungalows, Andheri (west) and arrested 13 pimps and rescued more than 20 girls. Constable Arvind Kadam of the Versova police station was also found in a pimp's room at the time of the raid. The prostitution racket has reportedly been going on for the last six months. The police also seized 16 mobile phones and cash. "I have issued orders to initiate a departmental inquiry against Kadam and deliver the report to me at the earliest," said Pratap Dighavkar, deputy commissioner of police, Zone IX.
"The accused used to keep moving between buildings in the colony to avoid detection. Girls were even sent to customers' houses," said ACP Vasant Dhobale of SSB.
The accused have been charged under the Prevention of Immoral Trafficking Act (PITA).
