A senior citizen was found murdered with her throat slit at her residence in South Mumbai, police said on Wednesday.
The deceased identified as Heeraben Mehta (90) was found lying in a pool of blood at her flat in Shraddhanand building in Pydhonie area yesterday afternoon by her second son Arvind Mehta (63) who is into fruits business.
Arvind immediately notified the cops who rushed to the spot, police said. "The murderer did not lay his/her hands on any of the articles inside the house. The door was also not forcefully opened which indicates that perpetrator of the crime is known to the elderly woman," said N K Gaikwad, sub inspector at Pydhonie police station.
Arvind, who stays in Nashik along with his family, had come to Mumbai yesterday morning when he received a phone call from his mother informing him of something being amiss at the house. When he reached home, Arvind found his mother dead and his elder brother Jamunadas missing.
"Jamunadas, who stays with his mother and unmarried, is being questioned on suspicion. His answers to a number of questions are prompting us to doubt him. However, the probe in the crime has not thrown any concrete leads so far," added Gaikwad.
