The struggle for parking space in Madh Island's Malwani area recently took an ugly turn when a 65-year-old fisherwoman was brutally beaten up by three other women, following an argument over an empty plot of land.
Satyam Madhkar, the younger son of the victim, who has been identified as Gulab, claims that their family owns the contentious piece of land, where they place their fishing containers. However, other residents of the fisherfolk community claim that land is a public property.
On November 25, when Gulab broke into an argument with the residents, it snowballed into something bigger, with three women allegedly hitting her. Speaking to mid-day, Gulab's eldest son ÂÂ, who works in Kenya, said, "Though, I am miles away from my mother, I have requested the police to register an FIR and investigate the case. However, the Malwani police is refusing to help us," Sachin alleged.
He added that his family had also shared footage of assault with the police, but they only filed a non-cognizable complaint. "We also met the commissioner of police, who instructed the Malwani police to probe the case," Sachin added.
