Women’s rights activists have said that Prakash Bala Sawant, who was booked for threatening to publicly strip a woman, should be given exemplary punishment
mid-day's front page report yesterday on Shiv Sena MLA Prakash Bala Sawant publicly abusing and threatening to strip and thrash an elderly woman has attracted the attention of several women's rights activists, and even the head of the Maharashtra State Commission for Women.

The outraged activists have demanded that Sawant should be severely punished if the woman's allegations are true and that he should be made an example of, so that people think twice before abusing a woman.
Some activists, speaking off the record, also wondered if the police, in the name of proper investigations, are shying away from arresting Sawant only because he is an MLA.
