Unit XI of the Mumbai Crime Branch arrested an ex-employee of a food distributor yesterday from Borivli for robbing his own employer. The employee, Suhash Kadam, who was sacked from his job was angry with his owner, an Amul butter distributor, and planned the robbery along with three of his friends.
Police inspector Raghunath Dalvi along with the staff of Unit XI arrested Kadam, and his aides Abhijit Pawar, Sandeep Malve and Tekam Mate for the crime yesterday. On the night of April 30 at around 11 pm, when Sushil Kothari, the owner of the agency, was closing his godown at Mathuradas Road in Kandivli (W), three people assaulted him with iron rods, while one of them kept watch in order to alert the rest. Soon after, the gang fled with about Rs 1 lakh in cash.
"The accused escaped with all the collection made during the day," said police inspector Dalvi. During the course of investigation, police officials interrogated several employees working at Sun Enterprise, the distributing agency and found that one of its ex-employees, Kadam, had been missing since the day of the robbery.
"When we interrogated Kadam, he told us that he was sacked because he spoke rudely to his employer and thus decided to carry out the robbery in a way of getting back at Kothari," said Dalvi. The police recovered about Rs 12,000 from the four accused. The accused will be presented in court today.
