TV sets installed have not been displaying information since one month; officials say agency that signed contract has fled

The eight television sets have not been working since the last one month

The television sets installed near platforms for long distance trains at Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (CST) has been inoperative since one month. It seems that the agency, which had taken the contract of installing and running the televisions, has bolted, without paying dues to the railways.

Earlier, the screens, installed near platforms 8, 9 and 10, would display PNR information, trains and ticket charts for passengers.

"We used to play advertisements along with information about railways, including charts, train schedule, etc. But the agency that took the contract has fled, leaving the television sets," said a senior official from Central railway.

For the eight television sets installed in 2012, the agency was paying monthly rent to the railways, and in turn earning from the advertisement that were played with railway information.

"It seems that they were not getting any profit; they even left the TV sets behind. Since they have not paid some dues, we will recover it from the sets," added the official.

The Haier's 42-inch display televisions cost approximately Rs 50,000 each.

Narendra Patil, Chief Public Relation Officer (PRO) of Central Railways said, "After completing the contract, the agency did not turn back. We are now looking for another agency that can take over their work."
