Taking serious note of the problems that commuters have been facing due to the pothole-ridden internal roads of Aarey Colony, local MLA Ravindra Waikar had taken up the issue with the Public Works Department (PWD) and Aarey CEO office, following which instructions were given to repair the roads at the earliest. Even though the PWD has started filling up the potholes, locals raised questions about the quality of the repair work and said that it was not nothing but an eyewash.
Commuters have been facing a host of issues on the internal routes of Aarey Colony due to the potholes
A resident of the area said, "The manner in which the potholes are being filled is extremely shoddy. They will get damaged soon. It appears to be just an eyewash."
The Aarey Milk Colony main road has been closed for traffic since the time a bridge collapsed due to heavy downpour on September 20. It has been over two months now and the bridge is yet to be repaired. Since the main road remains unapproachable, only those staying in Aarey are allowed to use the internal roads. However, commuters have been facing a lot of traffic jams on these routes due to the potholes. In order to decongest these roads, one of the internal routes was connected to the Western Express Highway near the Bombay Veterinary College. However, it has not helped in solving the problem completely.
Speaking to mid-day, Waikar said, "I review the construction work of the bridge on a daily basis. The work is progressing well. The bridge will be opened up for motorists by the first week of January."
When asked about the locals' opinion about the pothole filling work, he said, "I will look into the matter and discuss it with the concerned officials. I'll also have to check the funds PWD has for the work." Even after repeated attempts to contact Aarey Milk colony CEO Nathu Rathod, he was unavailable for comment.
