A Juhu-based businessman (name undisclosed) is under the scanner for allegedly giving refuge to a renowned businessman from Gujarat, who is wanted in the kidnapping and murder case of his manager in Rajkot.

Samir Shah (in picture) and Samir Gandhi, and two Rajkot police officers, PSI MC Maru and ASI Yogesh Bhatt, are accused of murder

The murder accused, Samir Shah, owns Rajmoti Oil Industries and is also head of the Saurashtra Oil Mills Association, and president of Rajkot Chambers of Commerce and Industry. He was on the run, and last week Rajkot police raided the house of the Mumbai-based businessman with whom accused Shah had allegedly stayed for several days.

Shah, along with his friend and manager of Rajmoti Industries, Samir Gandhi, and two Rajkot police officers, PSI MC Maru and ASI Yogesh Bhatt, is accused of murdering Dinesh Daxini, manager of Rajmoti Oil's Ahmedabad branch. After the death, Daxini's brother-in-law filed a complaint with B Division police in Rajkot. The incident took place on March 1 and an FIR has been filed against all the accused under Sections 302 (murder), 365 (kidnapping or abducting), 342 (wrongful confinement), 120b (party to a criminal conspiracy) and 34 (common intention) of the IPC.

According to Mumbai Police, a month ago, Shah had come to Juhu Scheme in Vile Parle west. Shah knows a cousin of the businessman's wife, and he also helped them set up their business. A police officer said, "The accused Shah realised that it would be safest for him to hide. He stayed in Juhu for almost 20 days. Last week, the Rajkot police learned his location from their sources and immediately sent a team to Juhu."

‘He did not know'
The Rajkot police special team, along with local police in Juhu, raided the house of the businessman, but did not find Shah.

The businessman told the cops that Shah had left the house three days ago. The cops questioned the businessman about allowing a murder accused in his house and helping him, to which he allegedly said that he had no idea about the murder. An officer said, "The news about Shah's involvement in the murder is everywhere, and it is very strange that the businessman did not know about it. The Rajkot police were not satisfied with the reply."

ACP Bano Joshi of Rajkot police confirmed the raid but refused to comment on the matter.

Daxini was kidnapped from his Ahmedabad residence in Jivraj Park area and allegedly beaten to death in Rajkot's Bedipara police chowky. He was rushed to PDU General Hospital, where he died during treatment. Daxini was suspected of involvement in alleged irregularities of Rs 65 lakh in accounts.

Daxini had managed to call his wife and informed her that he was badly beaten up and pleaded with her to try and rescue him. A police source said, "The Rajkot police has summoned the Juhu-based businessman to give them a statement but he has still not turned up."
