Officials of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) conducted a raid at the reservation counters at Mumbai's Andheri railway station in Western railway on wee hours of Tuesday.
The officials seized the Tatkal registers, and arrested two booking clerks with unaccounted for cash in their underwear.
CBI registered FIR on November 6 after an RTI activist filed a complaint. As per the complaint, the reservation clerks were extorting money from commuters with the help of touts. A team of 12 officials conducted the raid at all reservation counters of the railway station.
Interestingly, the two clerks, one of whom is a woman, who were caught red-handed with extra unaccounted for cash, hurriedly tried to hide the money in their underwear in a bid to avoid arrest, added the sources.
It was an organised racket where touts and railway employees joined hands to extract money from commuters seeking confirmed tickets.
"The probe is still on. I am not able to comment at this stage," said a CBI officer.
