When Aparupa Hazarika reached platform no. 3 of Kandivli station on Tuesday morning, little did she realise that she'd be rescuing three people on the first day of her new job. Hazarika, 35, was on her way to Lower Parel to start work as music content editor, when she saw a young woman try to commit suicide along with her two children. She did not only alert the RPF, but also stopped and convinced the woman against killing herself.

According to police sources, Kalpana Yadav, 23, was trying to commit suicide by jumping in front of a local train, along her two kids, Shivkumar, 1, and Vivek, 2. "I saw a woman carrying two small children crying on the edge of the platform. After watching her for a while, I approached her. She then told me that she was waiting to jump in front of a fast train. I immediately pulled her back and counselled her," recalled Hazarika.

Meanwhile, Hazarika called the RPF. She told the police that she was being abused and beaten by her husband. "She was later handed over to the GRP. The Samtanagar police station is now investigating her claims," an official said.
