The construction of MMRDAs new iconic office at BKC does not seems to get complete as an RTI query has revealed that the work is going on in slow pace and the Rs 106 crore project is incomplete even after 92 months
The construction of Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDAs) new iconic office at BKC does not seems to get complete as an RTI query has revealed that the work is going on in slow pace and the Rs 106 crore project is incomplete even after 92 months.
The RTI query also states that there has been an increase in its cost by Rs 19 crore due to delay.
RTI Activist Anil Galgali had sought information from the MMRDA Authority in regards to the construction of a new building going on behind their current office at BKC few meters away from Mithi river.
Executive Engineer as well as the Public information officer of MMRDA, M.Y. Patil, informed Galgali that the said proposal for construction of new office building to the MMRDA was given on december 24, 2007.
"The basic cost approved was that of Rs. 87 crore and it was to be completed by December 31, 2012. But in spite of giving three extensions, first till September 15, 2013, Second till december 31, 2014 and the latest one being, may 31, 2015, the work is still pending resulting in additional Rs 19 crore because it's not completed stipulated time frame." said Galgali.
While there has been a delay the MMRDA authorities have blamed other agencies for the delay. Authorities inform that the delay happened as MCGM - Environment Department's NOC took time. They also stated change in Original Plan as one of the reasons for the delay.
The said project is been done by M/s Relcon Infraprojects Limited, the interior decoration contract has been awarded to M/s Godrej Company Limited and the electric and air-conditioning contract has been given to M/s Pravin Electrical Limited. The said modern office is a 11 floor building having 9 floors along 2 service floors."added Galgali
"In spite of having its own building to work in the heart of Mumbai city, MMRDA had no need to spend Rs. 106 crores on construction of a new office. It is complete waste of both money and resources. This is having fun at a cost of people living in drought prone areas and where farmers are committing suicide. Also next to this proposed office, there is another building, Tantri, that also belongs to the MMRDA and is equipped with the latest technology. So why is there a need of a new office?, questions Galgali.
