The Marine Drive police on Sunday arrested two men red-handed for posing as crime branch sleuths and cheating a Dadar-based businessman.
The incident took place when the complainant fell asleep near Marine Drive station while waiting for a train. The accused, Hemant Konpdi, 34, and Sameer Qureshi, 32, from south Mumbai, shook the man awake saying they were crime branch officers. They told him to accompany them to the police station or pay them Rs 10,000, asking him to withdraw it from an ATM.
Cops in a patrol team that was on its rounds asked the man what was going on. He narrated his tale, and when the two robbers tried to flee, the cops caught hold of them.
