15-yr-old Shamim Anwar Sheikh ran away two months back; her parents are worried that she has again fled to Uttar Pradesh to be with her 22-year-old boyfriend
The parents of Shamim Anwar Sheikh are still waiting for her return. It has been two months since the 15-year-old escaped from a remand home in Andheri. Sadly, this is not the first time that Shamim has run away.
In January, she had fled with 22-year-old Sunil Tiwari. Tiwari and Shamim, who worked together in Bandra, were in a relationship. "We tried to stop the girl from meeting him, but she would not listen to us.
They ran away to Tiwari's hometown in Uttar Pradesh. We even registered a complaint of kidnapping against Tiwari at Nirmal Nagar police station," recounted Liyakat Sheikh, a family relative. Shamim did call her parents from time to time, and while they asked her to come back, she insisted that she was happy with him.
In February, after hearing the news that her mother was ill, the 15-year-old returned to meet her. She was then taken to the police station where she said that she did not want to stay with her parents. As she was a minor, the cops sent her to a remand house in Dongri.
The report on the girl stated that she was progressing well, learning English and was repenting her previous actions. Shamim was soon transferred to Catherine Home in Veera Desai road in Andheri. On April 7, she wrote a letter addressed to her parents, âI want to study and I hope that you forgive me for my past,' the letter stated.
However, two days later, Shamim ran away from the remand house. "We had repeatedly told her parents that she didn't want to stay here and wanted to go back to UP," said an official from the remand home. Sheikh said, "We just want her to come back. We are worried how she would be surviving there."
