After an MSRDC team visited the flyover yesterday, officials deemed that one lane of the southbound stretch was fit to allow light vehicles; other lanes may open next week
Bringing some respite to motorists who use the Western Express Highway to commute to south Mumbai, the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) has decided to throw open a single lane of the recently repaired Dindoshi bridge at Goregaon (East). The southbound carriageway of the flyover was being repaired after nine slabs had developed cracks.

The decision, taken after an MSRDC team visited the site yesterday, will bring relief to commuters, especially since the entire southbound stretch has been closed off to vehicles for the past 3-4 days, leading to huge traffic jams.
An MSRDC official said on Tuesday, "Our team visited the spot today and we have decided that one lane of the three southbound lanes should be thrown open for light vehicles from Wednesday. The remaining two lanes would be opened after Monday next week, as the concrete in the two lanes still needs to dry. We also have to add a bitumen layer."
mid-day's report yesterday, saying that the MSRDC would miss its May 31 deadline
He added that a decision about opening the two lanes would be taken after the final touches are applied on the flyover. mid-day had reported on Tuesday that while the MSRDC had claimed that the flyover would be ready by the May 31 deadline, an official confessed that it wouldn't be possible to complete the work before monsoon.
