Mumbai: Notices will be issued to companies for not implementing corporate social responsibility (CSR), Maharashtra Environment Minister Ramdas Kadam said here today.

The ministers has issued instructions in this regard to district collectors, an official release said here.

"While earning profits, the companies should have social awareness and spend a part of their earnings for welfare of the weaker sections of society. For this, every company should accept CSR. The minister gave the directives after noticing that some companies were not showing seriousness on the issue," it said.

Environment-friendly development works will be undertaken in the respective districts from the two per cent tax on CSR, the minister said, addressing a meeting on environmental issues in Thane urban areas, at Mantrakaya.

"It should not be felt that CSR is just a statutory responsibility," the minister said.

In another announcement at the meeting, Kadam said notice boards will be put up near rivers to denote their pollution levels. This will be like the LED boards put up to indicate air pollution, he said.
