Officials from the town-planning agency said the terminus, which would help regulate pick up and drop points of these buses, is part of the smart city plan.

Facilities
The proposed terminus will serve as the main boarding and alighting point in the city for all passengers taking a bus to travel outside the city and state. The project worth Rs 150 crores is expected to be operational from January 2018. The bus terminus will have tourism offices of all states, ATMs, a food court, shopping complex, rest rooms, postal facilities and cyber café.

A depot too
In addition, the town-planning agency will also construct a depot in Kharghar node that will comprise a maintenance building, fuel station, parking, and rest room for drivers and washing bays. The proposed depot would be spread over 2.7 hectares and will cost around Rs 25 crores, CIDCO said. The depot is would be operational by June 2018.

Officials said they are currently evaluating and carrying out necessary surveys of the preferred site for the bus terminus. "The terminus will be open to all kinds of buses, including government and private," said Soma Vijay Kumar, chief transport engineer at CIDCO.
