A NMMT bus mowed down a 42-year-old woman from Kopar Khairane, who was on her way to her brother's house at Kamothe on Raksha Bandhan. The accident took place at Belpada bus stop near Kharghar railway station on the Sion-Panvel Highway on Monday.
According to Hindustan Times, the driver of the bus has been arrested and booked under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and Motor Vehicle Act.
The deceased Kamal Shinde was riding pillion on a bike with her 52-year-old landlord, Dilip Goel, who sustained minor injuries in the mishap.

The bus was carrying some passengers and was on its way to Kalyan from CBD Belapur.
Sources at Kharghar Police station say the bus was moving in the same direction at Belpada and hit them from behind causing them to fall on the road. Kamal was run over by the bus and succumbed to the injuries after she was taken to the hospital. The landlord is said to be out of danger.

Onlookers said the driver was speeding and lost control of the vehicle. The bus event went up the pavement due to the impact.
Shinde was living in a rented accommodation with her family and shared good relations with her landlord, who requested he accompany her to her brother's home since her husband was at work.
