Navi Mumbai traffic police department will tie-up with a nationalised bank to make payments of fines easier; offenders can directly transfer the fine into the department’s bank account or pay on the spot using debit/credit cards

Ten months after it became the first traffic authority in the state to introduce the e-challan system, the Navi Mumbai traffic police department has once again come up with a new idea of collecting fines from offenders.

It has been learnt that the department plans to tie-up with a nationalised bank so that offenders can pay their respective fines easily. Through this alliance, each of the 15 traffic units in the city and the CCTV command centre would open a current account in the bank.

This will allow the offenders to either deposit the fine in any of the bank's branches or pay on the spot with help of debit/credit cards. Sources in the department claimed that Mahaonline is certain of tying up with the SBI Bank.

Official speak
"The tie-up would not only help save offenders time they would be spending coming all the way to the headquarters, but will also make the department's job easy. By implementing this method, fine collected will be directly deposited into the department's bank account.

Currently, the department doesn't have a bank account. This makes transferring the revenue collected into the government treasury a lengthy procedure," said an official.
