In a breakthrough, Mumbai Police Cyber Cell has arrested a person from New Delhi who is allegedly linked to the online leak of the recent film "Udta Punjab" two days prior to its release, an official said here on Wednesday.
Identified as Dipak Kumar, he was arrested after interrogation by the police.
"The complainant was informed that the said movie was leaked on Internet on two separate links of website Torrent.com. On downloading the movie, it was revealed that the first censor copy was stolen and uploaded on torrent.com by user robby007," the Cyber Cell said in a statement.
It added that during investigations, it was found another website, allmovies.com had uploaded that link.
The Mumbai Police team visited New Delhi and surrounding areas and managed to trace Dipak Kumar.
He was taken to the Cyber Police Station here and after his active role in the issue was confirmed, he was arrested.
After it came to light that the film had been leaked two days prior to its official release in theatres, the websites download links were cancelled citing grounds of a copyright violation complaint.
"Udta Punjab", which was in a major controversy with the Central Board of Film Certification, was released on June 13 with an "A" Certificate and stars Shahid Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Kareena Kapoor-Khan and Diljit Dosanjh.
