Investigation has revealed that a technician of a Kandivli-based college emailed the paper to an agent, who then sent it to students on a common WhatsApp group
A day after a student of MVM College of Commerce was caught with a mobile phone containing a picture of the 'Marketing: E Commerce and Digital Marketing' paper of Bachelor of Management Studies (BMS) examination, the Amboli police arrested 10 people yesterday for their alleged involvement in the leak. Investigation has revealed that a technician of a Kandivli-based college emailed the paper to an agent, who then sent it to students on a common WhatsApp group.

Speaking to mid-day, Paramjit Singh Dahiya, deputy commissioner of police, zone IX, said, "Ten people have been arrested in the case. Further investigations are on."
Easy access
The police said Mumbai University (MU) usually sends the question papers to colleges one-and-a-half hours prior to the exam. As college technicians have access to the university server and password-encrypted papers, accused Kalpesh Bagul managed to log into the server, download the paper and then transfer it to the agent, who passed it on to the students.
A source said, "Technical coordinators usually have access to the password, using which they can download the papers. The technician in this case downloaded the paper and emailed it to the agent, who sent it to the students 30-40 minutes prior to the exam. Probe has revealed that some of the students then forwarded it to their friends."
The father of one of the students, who has been arrested, said, "My son has nothing to do with the leak. He is not even a BMS student. His only fault is that he is a part of the WhatsApp group on which the paper was forwarded."
Nine papers leaked
Confirming the matter, a police officer said, "An FIR under sections 5, 6, and 8 of The Maharashtra Prevention Of Malpractices At University, Board And Other Specified Examinations Act, 1982, and section 66(d) of IT Act was registered late on Thursday night. Following this, 10 people were arrested - six students, three agents and Bagul. We have also recovered nine mobile phones, a printer and a computer from the technician."
Sources said that following interrogations, encounter specialist Daya Nayak, who is investigating the case, found out that Bagul had leaked nine papers in all - five BMS papers and four BAF papers.
No re-examination
Meanwhile, a statement issued by MU yesterday mentioned: "The university has formed a committee to conduct an inquiry in the paper leak case. We are also waiting for the police report."
A senior official of the varsity said, "At present, there are no chances of a re-examination. However, the committee will take the final decision following the police investigation."
