The mystery over the body that was recovered yesterday by the police near the Carter Road promenade has been solved. The deceased has been identified as Ashok Shinde, 48. According to his family members, he may have committed suicide.

A source from the Bandra police said, "After recovering the body from the sea, we found an ID card on him. He is a Bandra East resident. We contacted his family and shifted the body to Bhabha hospital for post-mortem."

The police questioned Shinde's kin about the events preceding his trip to Carter Road. An officer said, "They said he had been ill for a few years ago, and hence, was under depression. He had left home on Monday saying he would be back in a while but never returned."

"Circumstantial evidence suggests that Shinde committed suicide as he could not deal with the illness. We have filed an accidental death report," the officer added.
