RTO officials intercepted a Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet near Yari Road
The Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet
The sleek Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet can attract attention anywhere - and it did. Barely days after a high-end car was seized by Regional Transport Office (RTO) for plying without valid papers, RTO officials at Andheri intercepted a Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet near Yari Road in VerÂsova. Sources said, on November 28 officials had seized this sports car worth R1.79 crore, which has been registered in Jharkhand. The RTO officers said that their flying squad was patrolling when they saw this vehicle.
The Porche story
An RTO official said, "We stopped this Porche near Yari Road and asked for its papers, as it was registered in Jharkhand. On probing, we found that the owner hadn't paid the Maharashtra Vehicle Tax, so, we confiscated it. It will be released when the taxes are paid."
The tax amounts to 20 per cent of the total cost, plus the penalty. Officials claim the car was bought in May this year, registered in Ranchi, Jharkhand RTO, on June 3 and was brought to Mumbai on June 11. "While checking the papers we realised the vehicle has been constantly refueling at a petrol pump in Juhu. It proves the car has been in the city for some time now," said another RTO official.
Previous car interception
A few days ago, Thane RTO seized an unregistered DC Avanti sports car at Mira Road. The red sports car, worth R35 lakh, was intercepted near a hotel on Mumbai-Ahmedabad highway after its driver failed to produce suitable documents for the vehicle.
