Mumbai: School cleaner awarded 10-year jail sentence for molesting 4-year-old

A 26-year-old cleaner from a prominent Mumbai school has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for molesting a 4-year-old girl. According to a report by The Indian Express, the accused has been asked by the court to pay a fine of Rs 25,000 to the victim.

The incident occurred in 2014, when the girl complained of experiencing pain in her private parts to her mother, who dismissed it as an infection due to chlorine, since she was taking swimming lessons. When she complained about pain the next day once again the mother enquired after which the girl narrated what had happened in the school washroom.

The accused was sentenced after the court examined 10 witnesses including the child, her mother, the school's staff. A medical certificate showed external injuries to her private parts.
