A 29-year-old former employee of the state transport corporation allegedly tried to kill his constable wife yesterday by stabbing her more than 13 times in her chest, stomach, and on her hands. She has been admitted in the ICU at a government hospital and said to be fighting for her life.
The police said the accused blamed her for leaving him and spoiling his life and, hence, had decided seek revenge.
In broad daylight
The incident occurred around 8.30 am, when Pritam Ahirekar stabbed his wife Sangita Surve (25) after barging into her flat in Sadguru apartment at Sahyadri Nagar. Another constable Ashwani Mali sustained injuries trying to save Surve.
He then stabs her 13 times on her chest, hands and in her stomach
Mali and two of her roommates, also constables, saved Surve and managed to take her out of the flat after pushing the accused off her. Their neighbour Prahlad Bandkar, who came to help on hearing the commotion, locked the accused inside the flat after the women came out and called up the police, said an officer from Charkop police station.
Surve's three roommates rush to her rescue, but Ahirekar threatens them and even injures one of them. They manage to push him off her and take her out of the flat
Trouble in paradise
Ahirekar, a clerk with the state transport body, married Surve in March 2015. After marriage, the two rented a flat in Ghatkopar and started living there. However, just a few months into the marriage, cracks appeared in their relationship after Ahirekar repeatedly accused Surve of cheating on him and constantly fought with her over it.
A neighbour, on hearing the commotion, comes to help. On seeing Ahirekar alone inside the flat, he locks the door from outside
Getting fed up of the regular quarrels, Surve, a native of Karar district who joined the force in 2009, left him and started living with three other female constables in Sahyadri Nagar.
The neighbour, identified as Prahlad Bandkar, then immediately calls up the police and informs about the incident
A disturbed Ahirekar was fired from his job soon after for not concentrating. After spending a few days on the streets, he went to Manpada and started working as a security guard at Kothare compound.
