A 30-year-old resident of Kandivli West had a narrow escape after his car was crushed in an accident on Western Urban Road early on Wednesday morning.
Vijay Tiwari, 30, was allegedly speeding towards the Kalina-Vakola flyover around 1 am when he lost control over his Maruti Ertiga, crashed into the road median and vaulted over it. Passing motorists alerted the police, who rushed to the spot. Since the car had a CNG kit, the fire brigade, too, was deployed.

A Vakola traffic police constable said on reaching the spot, the police suspected that Tiwari had sustained grave injuries. "The left side and the bonnet of the car were mangled. But the driver had a miraculous escape. He didn't sustain even a scratch."
The accident raised the suspicion that Tiwari had been drunk behind the wheel, but the police gave him a clean chit after questioning.
Tiwari claimed that he skidded on the wet stretch of the road. "I was driving carefully.

I don't know how but I suddenly skidded and rammed into the median. The next thing I know I'm on the opposite carriageway. I was lucky that there was no oncoming vehicle at the time."
The accident led to a minor mishap. As the police were taking down Tiwari's statement, three distracted motorists bumped into the vehicle ahead. No one was injured.
