The 27-year-old man, arrested last night for allegedly flashing three young women at Powai last week, is a serial molester, police have found, with 12 molestation cases registered against him. The accused was arrested from Deonar village Road in Govandi.
Last Thursday, four college students were accosted by Kalpesh Devgare, who flashed them while they were on their way back from college near Powai. The incident took place around 11.30 am, near the Powai Hiranandani Galleria mall.
The girls immediately approached a constable standing nearby. However, the cop told them to go home and assured that action would be taken in the matter. Later, the Powai cops visited their homes and took down their complaint.
Devgare, a resident of Vakola, after fleeing from Powai, had headed to Govandi on his bike. According to Senior Inspector Uttam Kolekar of the Govandi Police, Devgare saw a college student at Govandi and flashed her, too. The girl started screaming and alerted the beat marshal, who hauled Devgare to the police station and arrested him. Devgare, however, secured bail and was back on the streets on July 16.
Meanwhile, the Govandi police informed Powai about Devgare's arrest and told him to come and collect his bike. The Powai police were waiting for him when he arrived at Govandi police station.
The police said Devgare's modus operandi was to target minor girls, kidnap them, and molest them or flash them.
