Two constables were injured when a tempo rammed into their bike in the early hours of Wednesday, on the Vakola flyover. Although the tempo driver fled from the accident spot, a cop who was heading home on the same route chased the tempo and nabbed the errant driver.
According to police sources, constables Dhanaji Pawar (50) and Ganesh Shinde (30) of Andheri Police Station were on their way to Bandra (West) Additional Commissioners office arouÂnd 4 am when the incident took place.
The tempo driver, identified as Abhay Gadashi (23), was speeding on the Western Express Highway and crashed into the constables on the Vakola flyover. But on noticing that the injured were cops, the driver fled the spot.

Incidentally, police inspector Jagdish Sahil from Andheri police station was heading home on the same route and saw the accident. Speaking to mid-day, he said, "I was heading home to Dadar, when I saw this tempo hit the constables. I immediately alerted the Vakola police and started chasing the tempo. I finally managed to nab him near Bandra Lucky Hotel." Sahil added that he has handed over the accused to Bandra police for further investigations on the hit-and-run case.
Meanwhile, the two injured constables have been admitted to Seven Hills Hospital for treatment.
