Malfunctioning in the signalling system resulted in disruption of services
Services on the Wadala-Chembur monorail route remained disrupted for 45 minutes after the signalling system failed around 10.30 am. This failure inconvenienced the commuters further who were exasperated with the second day of the ongoing strike called by BEST bus drivers and conductors earlier in the day.
Too many people: After fixing the signalling system, a monorail official claimed that the problem occurred due to overcrowding. Representation pic
During the time it took the monorail authorities to restore the signalling system, services were operated using manual signalling at every monorail station. Soon after the system was fixed, authorities claimed the problem had occurred due to overcrowding.
MMRDA Commissioner UPS Madan said, "It is true that the monorail services suffered for an hour, but the problem has been resolved. It occurred due to some technical problem, which disrupted the signalling system. Operations were handled using the manual signalling system during this time."
