Mumbai International Airport authorities have made elaborate arrangements, including setting up 'task force', to ensure seamless operations during the monsoon season this year
Mumbai International Airport authorities (Mumbai International Airport Pvt. Ltd -- MIAL) are all set for the monsoon having made elaborate arrangements to ensure seamless operations during the rainy season this year.
MIAL has set up a 'Monsoon Task Force' to deal with any type of emergencies arising during the monsoons.
The task force will be deployed to address any emergency situation immediately and includes operatives from all departments -- Civil , Electrical and Mechanical experts, Facilities.
The monsoon preparations cover all key areas of the airport -- the curbside, airside and terminal, an officer told mid-day. He also said that pumps will be stationed at the facility and a periodical cleaning of drains will be carried out during extremely high tide and heavy rainfall.
The airport authorities have also carried out specific testing modules for gutter flushing, vertical water downtake, manholes, drain channels, departure bay expansion joints, skylights and UG pipes, it said. MIAL, in collaboration with the civic authorities, has also cleaned and de-silted the drains on the city side and the part of Mithi River and nallas falling under the airport's purview.
Many measures have also been taken to keep mosquitoes away from the new Terminal 2 (T2).
In order to make passengers' experience more comfortable while waiting for the auto-rickshaws, MIAL is constructing sheds for auto stands at T2.
