The victim, Datta Bhanudas Karade, 28, a native of Beed, resides in Jari Mari, Kurla. He had gone to Satara for some work and returned to the city on Tuesday around 5 am.
While he was walking home, the gang members stopped him near the station and robbed him of his cash and cell phone. They even snatched his bag and checked it in front of him. When they couldn't find anything, they dumped it on the road and left the place.
Karade then quietly followed them and on reaching Chembur Naka, he found two cops patrolling on the road. He informed the officers about the incident, who then chased the gang and managed to catch hold of two of the crooks, while the remaining five fled the spot.
