She was at the bank when the trio offered to help her make cash deposits
The police are on the lookout for three unidentified people for conning a Byculla resident of R1.28 lakh. The incident took place on Wednesday, when Ushirahamza Nasir Ansari, 25, had gone to the Zaveri Bazar branch of ICICI Bank to deposit R4 lakh cash.
Ansari is a resident of Maulana Azad Road in Madanpura, Byculla West, and works at a private firm. An officer with the LT Marg police said, "The complainant was at the bank around 12.45 pm. She was trying to deposit the cash when three men approached her, offering to help her deposit cash the correct way. Ansari said the men helped her deposit the money and left, and it was only then that she realised that the trio had stolen R1.28 lakh from her bundle. She alerted the bank officials and lodged a cheating case. We have registered an FIR against the three unidentified men under sections 420 (cheating) and 34 (common intention) of the IPC."
The police suspect that the con job is the handiwork of a professional gang of thieves. "We are going through the CCTV footage from the bank to get pictures of the accused," the officer said.
