A 49-year-old jeweller has registered a complaint at Shivaji Park police station, claiming that someone robbed him of gold jewellery worth Rs 11.53 lakh, at the busy flower market in Dadar


A 49-year-old jeweller has registered a complaint at Shivaji Park police station, claiming that someone robbed him of gold jewellery worth Rs 11.53 lakh, at the busy flower market in Dadar.

Suresh Shobhawat, has a jewellery shop in Zaveri Bazar. He often carries gold ornaments for sale in nearby shops. In his police statement, he claimed on October 4, after closing his shop, he put 372 gm jewellery worth Rs 11.53 lakh in a leather bag. The next day, he left his Dadar (W) home at 1.45 pm with the bag. As he approached Dadar station, he saw the railway bridge crowded, so he decided to take the Keshavsut bridge. "When I passed a shop, someone came from behind and snatched my bag. I started shouting and asked pedestrians to catch him. But nobody paid heed. I didn't see any man running," he said.

Police says
"It's difficult to believe that someone snatched a bag in day light, that too near Dadar station bridge, and ran away without anyone noticing," said a police official. A case under IPC section 392 (robbery) has been registered against an unknown person. Police is trying to get CCTV footage.
