The 70-year-old falls unconscious as the hooligans try to snatch her chain on a footbridge at Vidyavihar

A case of attempted robbery has been registered at the Tilak Nagar police station after three local goons attacked a 70-year-old senior citizen at a footbridge in Vidyavihar.

According to police officials, the victim has been identified as Preeti Gokhani, who is a resident of Ghatkopar. She was on her way to her relative's place in Santacruz.

Gokhani's statement to the police read: "While crossing the footbridge to get to Vidyavihar (west) and catch a rickshaw to Santacruz, I noticed three goons seated on the steps of the bridge. Suddenly, one of them got up and came up to me and tried to snatch a chain from my neck. Due to the impact, I fell from the steps and started losing my consciousness."

However, before losing consciousness, she noticed that people near the bridge started following the accused, while a few others offered her help. "Later, my chain was returned to me by one of them and my son was called to the spot as well. After this, I was taken to the nearest hospital by him," added the victim. The cops claimed that they are investigating the case and that the accused is still at large. Teams have been formed to trace them, the police added.

The absconders have been booked under Sections 393 (attempt to commit robbery) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the Indian Penal Code.
