A 34-year-old automobile engineer, who is the son of an Assistant Police Inspector with the Tardeo police station was arrested in Navi Mumbai on Thursday night, for brutally murdering his wife. He killed his 32-year-old wife by strangulating her and smashing her face with a stone, on the Palm Beach highway.
According to police, the accused Rakesh Ramesh Naukudkar married the victim, Savita in 2012. The couple were residents of BDD Chawl in Worli. Rakesh works for a private automobile firm in Dombivli, while Savita was working for an advertising firm in Kharghar.
A local called the NRI Police Station upon seeing Savita's dead body on the Palm Beach Road in Navi Mumbai on February 10, at 7 pm. After identifying the woman, the cops started investigating the case. Later, they called Rakesh for a round of interrogation. "During the investigation, we found that Rakesh was having an extra marital affair and he was forcing Savita for a divorce. She kept refusing it, but Rakesh was insistent since he wanted to marry the other woman. This lead to regular disputes between them," said Shekhar Bagade, Senior Police Inspector, NRI police station.
Bagade said Rakesh wanted to get Savita out of his life and hence, he planned the murder. "On February 9, Rakesh went to Savita's office in Kharghar, and asked her to sit pillion on his motorcycle, telling her they were heading home. He claims that on their way back home, he strangulated her and smashed a stone on her face killing her and left the place," added Bagade.
Nailing Rakesh
The NRI police have registered a murder case under several sections of the Indian Penal Code. "With the help of the CCTV footage from the Palm Beach highway and the couple's mobile call data, we established the link and interrogated Rakesh till he confessed the crime. We are interrogating him further. At present, we have not found any other person's involvement in the case," added Bagade. Rakesh was produced in a local court and has been remanded in police custody till February 18.
