The accused were identified as Ketan Ghadge and Swapnil Ghambre, both 20 years old. According to the police, Ghadge's father, Vijay Ghadge, is a police naik (one rank above constable) at the RAK Marg police station in Sewri, while his mother, Shashikala Ghadge, is posted at the same grade at Antop Hill police station.

The incident occurred in the morning yesterday, when the victim, who is a clerk at the Bombay High Court, was out for a morning walk near ESIC Bhavan in Lower Parel. An officer from N M Joshi Marg police station, requesting anonymity, said, "At around 7.30 am, the complainant was taking her morning walk.

The two accused arrived on a motorcycle and Ghadge got down from the bike. Ghambre crossed the road and waited for him to snatch the chain from the woman's neck." A police patrol van was on its rounds, coincidentally, and saw Ghadge grabbing the chain and running towards his accomplice.

Cop speak
"While trying to climb onto the bike in a hurry, Ghadge fell off and was nabbed instantly. A wireless message was relayed along with the registration number of the motorcycle and the attire of the accomplice. This helped the Worli police nab his partner," added the officer.

Police claimed the two youths are drug addicts and were committing the crime to pay for their addiction. While Ghadge is a first-timer, Ghambre has two arrests against his name both under the Narcotics, Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. Both are residents of a BDD chawl in Parel.

They were booked under Sections 392 (robbery) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the Indian Penal Code, and remanded to police custody. When contacted, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone III) S Jaykumar confirmed the matter and said investigations were in progress.
