In an irony of sorts, instead of looking for the thieves who stole Rs 15 lakh from an electrical shop, the cops are after the store's owner to find out the source of the money. Three days have passed since the incident took place at Satyam Electrical Store in Lohar Chawl, Kalbadevi, but cops are yet to make any headway in the case.
Cash missing
Speaking to mid-day, owner of the shop, Suresh Thawani said, "On December 2, I closed my shop around 8 pm. When I returned around 10 am the following day, I found the shutter broken and the safety door open. Cash worth R15 lakh was missing and the entire shop had been ransacked. The cash comprised of both old and new currencies."
He further said, "Police officers visited the store only once. They were enquiring about the source of the cash from a salesman. I have valid documents in support of the cash. It is definitely not black money. Instead of looking for the accused, the cops are enquiring about the source of money."
Unnecessary harassment
Speaking on condition of anonymity, owner of another shop in the area said, "This is pathetic. He is unnecessarily being harassed. Break-ins take place at Lohar Chawl every month. Still cops do not patrol the area on a regular basis."
A case has been registered at LT Marg police station under sections 380 (theft), 454 (house breaking), 457 (house breaking at night) of IPC. mid-day tried to contact the senior inspector of LT Marg police station but he remained unavailable.
