With the Mumbai University (MU) facing flack for delay in declaring results, it has come up with a new way to pacify students. In a circular issued yesterday, it said students applying for re-evaluation would have to pay Rs 300 instead of the earlier Rs 600. It added that they would be emailed a copy of their answer sheets and wouldn't need to collect the photocopies.

Sources said the decision was taken at a management council meeting of the varsity on Monday. After the delay in declaring results, concerns were raised over the quality of assessment and subsequent increase in the number of re-evaluation applications. Students had also raised a demand for reducing the re-evaluation fees.

Speaking to mid-day, Leeladhar Bansod, public relations officer of MU, said, "The university will no longer have to spend money on taking photocopies of the answer sheets, as they would be sent to the students in digital format. The re-evaluation process will also be convenient for them, as it will be carried out through respective colleges. Students won't have to visit the varsity to collect their answer sheets."

Until now, each student had to pay Rs 550 for re-evaluation and Rs 50 for the photocopy. Now, it's Rs 250 for re-evaluation and Rs 50 for the digital copy.

More for evaluation

To speed-up evaluation process, the MU administration, in a circular issued yesterday, stated the teachers who assess over 50 papers a day, would be given a day's payment as reward.
