Four people were booked for allegedly duping people of over Rs 2 crore by giving 'fake' allotment letters to them for MHADA houses in Mankhurd, the police said on Wednesday.
"On directions of a local court, a case under sections 420 (cheating), 425 (dishonest or fraudulent removal or concealment of property), 406 (criminal breach of trust) of the Indian Penal Code was registered on July 17 at the Mankhurd police station," a senior police officer said. "A complaint in this regard was registered by Balram Shirsathe, 62, a resident of Chembur. As per the complaint, the accused, Sachin Siddhu, his wife, Kiran, father, Ranjeet, and one Bansilal Gupta duped Shirsathe and four others of Rs 2.10 crore by promising them houses constructed by the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA)," the official said.
No arrests had been made so far and a probe is still on, the official added.
