A 45-year-old Mankhurd woman strangled her drug-addicted son to death to save her daughter-in-law from his abuse. Police say she then sat next to her body the entire night and wept after committing the murder on Tuesday evening.
Mankhurd police arrested her the following day and booked her for murder under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code.

According to Hindustan Times, Anwari Idrisi confessed that she murdered her son Nadeem Naim, 25, to protect her daughter-in-law from his constant beatings. Nadeem's body has been sent for post-mortem.
Mankhurd Police sources say the deceased Nadeem, his mother, wife, two elder brothers and their wives were residents of Ambedkar chawl. Nadeem married his wife, who hailed from Allahabad two years ago.

She was initially unaware of his drug addiction but as time went by became fed up of his constant beatings and left her in-laws' home five months later.
It was Anwari who convinced her daughter-in-law to return to Mankhurd by promising her that her son would not assault her or consume drugs. She said she would protect her in case he turns abusive in the future.

On the night of the incident, an inebriated Nadeem returned him when the entire family was present. Knowing he would become violent, Anwari sent everyone to sleep at their neighbour's place. Nadeem lost his temper due to this and began assaulting his mother. She retaliated by pushed him towards a steel ladder and then proceeded to strangle him with her dupatta.
After Nadeem's death, Anwari sat next to his body the whole night weeping. Upon her daughter-in-law's return the next morning she revealed everything to her.
