Taking the 11.04 km Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar Metro a step closer to inauguration, the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) will be arriving this week to inspect the VAG line this week.
According to sources, the MMOPL is all set for the final inspection before the launch of the first Metro of Mumbai.
Gearing up for the metro's launch, MMOPL confirmed that CMRS will arrive at the Metro Depot in DN Nagar this week.
It should be noted that CMRS safety check is the last statutory certification requirement before the line is opened to the public.
"CMRS has communicated to MMOPL that he will be visiting for inspection from April 18 onwards," confirmed a spokesperson from MMOPL.
With opening of the line the journey on the route will be reduced to approximately 20 minutes from almost two hours.
Post receiving the RDSO certification on April 2nd. MMOPL applied to CMRS on April 4 and in the meanwhile was in the process of preparing for the safety inspection.
The MMOPL official said, "We are fully geared for the inspection and expect the inspection will be smooth and the line will be opened soon."
The CMRS will inspect the entire Metro system which includes rolling stocks, workshop, depot, OCC, corridor, stations, track, OHE.
"On being satisfied after detailed tests and trials, the CMRS would authorise MMOPL to commence passenger operations on the line. Thereafter, MMOPL has to approach the Ministry of Railways for declaring the line open for public carriage" MMOPL official said.
