However, instead of stopping and helping him, the car driver zigzagged through the busy Pali Naka stretch and tried to speed away. Three bikers tried to give it a tough chase. In the rush, the car hit a man and rammed into another autorickshaw coming from the opposite direction, before escaping. Bapputty, however, managed to make note of the car registration number - MH02M9248.
"I went to the police station to lodge a complaint, but the officers at Bandra police station directed me to Bhabha Hospital for a medical checkup, before they could file the FIR," said Bapputty.
Interestingly, when Bapputty reached the hospital around 10.30 pm, another man walked in with injuries. "He claimed that a white Mercedes had knocked him down, while he was crossing the road near Lucky Restaurant junction at 10 pm. He said that the driver seemed to be in a hurry. The man decided against registering a police case and came to the hospital instead," said Bapputty.
The police have registered a case against unknown persons under section 279 of the Indian Penal Code for rash and negligent driving. "The cops should get the CCTV footage of all the main junctions in Bandra as the car must have hit more people that same night," added Bapputty.
When contacted, Pandit Thackrey, senior police inspector of Bandra police station said that they have notified all the beat marshals about the reckless driver and forwarded a wireless message to find the Mercedes . "We have registered the complaint and will nab the driver soon," Thackrey said.
