KEM hospital has started a counselling centre in its outpatient department to guide patients on which doctor to visit and to provide them with proper information. The decision was taken as over 1,000 patients visit the hospital daily and are often confused about who to go to. A doctor will be at the centre from 9 am to 2 pm to assist patients.

Proper guidance
The hospital started this in association with an NGO almost two weeks back. Dean Dr Avinash Supe said, "KEM is the first BMC-run hospital to start such a centre. The doctor present at the centre will guide the patients regarding the departments."

A patient, Gauri Rathod (35), who had come from Currey Road with severe headache, said she did not know which doctor to approach. The doctor at the centre examined her and asked her to go to the medicine department.

"It is difficult to know whom to approach for treatment. The doctor at the centre guided me," she added.

No signboards
According to sources, it often becomes difficult for patients to locate the departments, as the hospital does not have proper signboards.

A hospital official said, "We are planning to put up signboards in front of each department. Till then, the centre will assist patients in approaching the right doctors."
