Mumbai-Goa highway (NH17) has been shut down near Kudal, a small town three kms from Sindhudurga district, because of heavy rains and overflowing Bansal River near the highway.
The flooded river has blocked the highway since Friday night. Traffic is at standstill at both the sides of the highway from 7 in the morning.
Highway control officials confirmed the news, "Till the water recedes no help can be provided. Traffic is increasing since Saturday morning as many people had planned for a long weekend. Minor help is being provided by the local villages near the highway."
CST railway officials said, "Though rains had disrupted the train services for some time in the morning, but trains are now departing on time."
