Mumbai: Double-decker air-conditioned train to go off tracks from mid-February

The Central Railway has decided to discontinue the AC double-decker train service between Mumbai and Goa, as it has failed to get the desired response. Bookings for the train, introduced in December 2015, would be stopped from mid-February, and then, in all probability, it would be sent to the Western Railway. According to sources, introduction of the Tejas Express on the same route last year affected the double-decker train, which currently runs thrice a week on the scenic Konkan Railway route.

Sources added that the reason people chose Tejas over the double-decker train was that the former departed from Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus, while the latter from Lokmanya Tilak Terminus (LTT). The 11085/11086 LTT-Madgaon AC Double Decker Express has eight AC chair cars and two EOG coaches. It covers a distance of 750 km in 12 hours - it leaves LTT at 5.30 am and reaches Karmali in Goa at 4.30 pm the same day.
