The city — sliced, diced and served with a dash of sauce
Honey! You're on the highway
Besides yummy versions of chikki and gooey fudge, and a quick escape from the maddening city, here's another reason to hit the road to Lonavala.
On a recent weekend getaway, en route, this diarist spotted a few people selling what appeared to be liquor in alcohol bottles, placed right in the middle of the road.
However, on checking with the sellers, we learnt that the bottles contained honey. We spotted at least four such temporary shops along the highway. You might not buy it but they sure make for a quirky Insta feed, don't they?
This Operawala will sing for charity
Here's some news that will delight lovers of Opera. Vocalist Oscar Castellino, and pianist Nadine Crasto (both trained in London) will perform operatic pieces to raise funds for students of St Xavier's College in Mumbai, who belong to disadvantaged backgrounds, to enable them to pursue higher education. This concert is a part of the Operawala Tour of India, organised by the Italian Cultural Centre and supported by Furtados.
Oscar Castellino
"I wanted to promote the Opera in India. I believe that that this kind of music can be suited to the Indian ear," reasons Castellino. The concert will feature operas sung in Italian, French and Napolitana, and will take place in the college Chapel tomorrow, 1.30 pm onwards.
"Being an alumnus of Xavier's, I wanted to do something for the college and so, this one will be a charity show. Since we are addressing students, I will take them through how to appreciate the music even if you don't understand the words," Castellino adds.
The month-long tour is spread over multiple venues in Goa, Mysore and Pune, apart from Mumbai. Don't miss out if you'd like to do your bit for the cause and watch this Bombaywala sing the Opera.
Pottermania will now get a coloured spell
Last year, Amazon had shared how it wasn't fiction, self-help or sci-fi but adult colouring books that topped their bestseller lists.
A study also revealed that people tend to forget their worries and workload when they soak themselves in exquisite scenes and patterns.
Taking a leaf from the news, the folks at Simon & Schuster have announced the release of a set of Harry Potter colouring books. If you're a Potter fan, this might be just what the doctor ordered to ward off those daytime Dementors in office.
Driven by Ms Daisy
Women can drive it from there. Just as Women's Day is around the bend, ladies look set to tear that she's-such-a-bad-driver, she-was-not-giving-a-signal-but-drying-her-nail-polish stereotype to shreds.

The Western India Automobile Association (WIAA) will hold its annual women's car rally on March 6. The event will be flagged off from Sahara Star, Mumbai, and end at Aamby Valley. Last year, 200 cars and 800 women participated.
This year, 165 entries have come in so far. The rally revolves around women's empowerment and the theme is, Be Strong Be Safe. Keen women drivers had better get into fifth gear because the last date for entries is February 27.
Why not write your next on Madhuri?

Filmmaker Saawan Kumar (left), who made movies with Nutan, seems to be telling author Lalita Tamhane (right) to write her next on actress Madhuri Dixit (centre) at an event held in the suburbs over the weekend. Tamhane had penned a biography on the legendary actress.

House and Electronica Romanian DJ Edward Maya got Mumbaikars to groove to his tunes over the weekend.
