Mumbai: Depressed over financial issues, dance instructor commits suicide

Financial constraints forced a 26-year-old professional dancer to commit suicide by hanging himself from the ceiling fan at a hotel in Vile Parle on Saturday


Financial constraints forced a 26-year-old man to commit suicide on Saturday. Deceased who was a professional dancer, hanged himself from the ceiling fan at a hotel in Vile Parle, after thanking his friends for their help through a common WhatsApp group. The police have also found a suicide note from the room, in which he has apologised to his family for taking such a drastic step. An accidental death report has been filed in the matter.

A native of Bangalore, he had come to Mumbai a couple of years back to become a dancer. After undergoing training at the Shiamak Davar Dance Academy, he joined the group as a dance instructor. "He was extremely passionate about dance and wanted to try his hand at acting as well. He worked at the academy for six years and then went back to Bangalore for a job, as he was going through financial constraints. However, he came back in 2017," said a friend. He further said, "After rejoining the academy, he went into depression. He appeared for bank exams, but couldn't clear them. Two months back I tried to talk to him about his problems, but he appeared to be happy at that time. He was not ready to talk about his problems."

Speaking to mid-day, another friend of the deceased said, "On Saturday evening, he left home with a bag of clothes and checked into Highway Residency Hotel around 7.30 pm. After he sent the message on the common WhatsApp group, we tried contacting him, but he didn't take the calls." Confirming the incident, Laxman Chavhan, senior officer of Vile Parle police station said, "He hanged himself from the ceiling fan with the help of a rope. He has apologised to his parents in the suicide note. However, he hasn't mentioned any reason for taking the extreme step."
