Almost five years after two deaf and mute men - Saif Hussain Bhavnagri and Parvez Wahid Khan - were arrested for killing a Bandra housewife Nalini Chailani and stealing her jewellery, the sessions court sentenced them to life imprisonment on Monday.

Speaking to mid-day, investigating officer of the case Rajendra Kane, PI, Khar police station, said, "Sessions court no. 29 judge Satavalekar awarded life imprisonment to both the deaf and mute accused for murder and imposed a fine of Rs 25,000 each for theft.

They have also been sentenced to five years of imprisonment and fined Rs 25,000 each for trespassing. From the total fine amount, Rs 1 lakh will be given to the complainant." "The investigation was very difficult, as the accused are deaf and mute. Even the judge had to take the help of an interpreter," he added.
