Mumbai Crime: Girl's tweet lands pervert who flashed her in cop's net

Kalpesh Gopinath Devdhar (28) was arrested after the police traced the registration address of his bike to his hometown in Raigad

The Mumbai police's online presence is not for nothing. Recently, the cops managed to swoop down on a pervert after a 21-year-old tweeted a photograph of the accused flashing at her, to the city police.

The incident took place on Tuesday evening. According to police sources, a female content writer and her friend were walking towards their home in Malad after shopping at the nearby HyperCity Mall, when a biker, identified as Kalpesh Gopinath Devdhar (28), spotted the women on Link Road.

On seeing the two, he stopped his bike a few metres ahead of them, and flashed at one of the women. She, however, ignored him and started walking quickly. When he received no reaction, he pulled the same stunt on the other woman. Unfortunately for Devdhar, the social media savvy woman immediately took a photograph of him in the act, and tweeted it to the Mumbai police. The picture also showed his bike plate.

Reacting to the woman's tweet, Joint Commissioner of Police (JCP) Deven Bharti ordered the Bangur Nagar police to immediately get cracking on the case. The police then contacted the RTO and traced the registration address of the bike. Following investigations, the police learnt that the bike was owned by a resident of Raigad.

Assistant police inspector S Kole, along with his staff, reached the accused's home in Raigad district.

On questioning, Devdhar's younger brother spilled the beans on him, and shared his Kandivli address with the police. "The cops reached the spot and arrested him under Section 509 of the IPC for insulting the modesty of a woman," said a police officer from Bangur Nagar police. He was produced in court today.
