Hours after a bus attendant was killed in broad daylight on a busy street in Versova, police found that it was her husband who slit her throat and nabbed the accused, Sachin Bhalsingh, from Pune, where he had fled to evade police arrest.

According to the police, Sachin was married to the victim, Neha Bhalsingh, for the past six years. As they used to have frequent arguments, Neha had shifted to her parents' house in Lower Parel.

"While Sachin works as a bus driver, his wife was a bus attendant of a suburban school. Both were employed with the same company, but worked in separate buses," said a police officer.

On Monday when Neha reached Versova to join work, Sachin arrived at the spot and attacked her with a knife. He slit her throat and fled leaving her in a pool of blood. Passersby rushed her to the nearest hospital, where doctors declared her dead on arrival.

Versova police launched a manhunt and arrested the accused from Pune.

The Crime Branch is also conducting a parallel probe in the matter.

Speaking to mid-day, Paramjit Singh Dahiya, deputy police commissioner, zone IX, said,

"Following the incident, a case under section 302 (punishment for murder) of IPC was registered in the matter. The accused has been arrested."
