Two women were held by the Mumbai Police's Anti Narcotics Cell (ANC) for possession of drugs worth Rs 4,5 laks on Wednesday. The arrests were made in two separate cases, one in Wadala and the other at Azad Maidan.
In the first case, the ANC arrested 30-year-old Merry Kannan Tewar from the Wadala Truck Terminus. Tewar was caught possessing 272 gm of heroin worth around 2.7 lakhs. Since the amount was over 250 gm, accused was booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.
As per a report in The Hindu, Assistant Police Inspector Vinod Shivdekar is quoted as having stated, "There were around seven of us on duty and we saw Tewar standing by the side of the road as though she was waiting for someone. We slowed down and called out to her. As soon as she saw us, she started running. One of our female personnel chased her and nabbed her. We found 272 grams of heroin in a black plastic bag that she was carrying."

Upon interrogation, Tewar reportedly confessed to buying the drugs illegally from a Masjid-based drug peddler, 'Laali'. Officials are also attempting to trace and apprehend the drug-peddler.
In the second case, Azad Maidan-based unit of the Anti Narcotics Cell arrested 25-year-old Nasrin Immam Shaikh. Shaikh was found possessing narcotics worth Rs 1.79 lakh at Wadibandar area's Raichur Street. The narcotics included tablets of Alprazolam, xl-pam and Nitrazepam, as well as, cough syrups. Shaikh was also booked under the the NDPS Act.
